Visual Communications

Course Description: Arts, A/V Technology & Communications Career Cluster. This course is intended for students interested in computer graphics, digital imaging, print design and desktop publishing. Students will use the Adobe suite of software in this course as well as the Quark package. The students will learn how to manipulate their digital images through the use of Adobe Photoshop. The students will become familiar with basic Photoshop tools and filters while manipulating their own digital images. Students will be introduced to digital image file types, their uses and copyright issues. Students will investigate design elements, brand marketing and how digital images affect the world of advertising. The students will explore the conventions of print design and proofing, page layout techniques, typography, digital color, and more using Adobe InDesign. Students will be introduced to different printing processes and forms of printed materials such as brochures, business cards, package design and more. Large format printing will also be explored. Program utilizes a Macintosh computer lab.
