The course is intended for students interested in gaining knowledge of computer maintenance principles, cabling skills, and understanding of basic networking. The first semester covers computer hardware and software from the beginning of the personal computer (PC) era. Students are expected to performance evaluate a computer system, disassemble the computer to bare chassis, reassemble the computer, perform all checks and troubleshooting procedures to ensure 100% system operation. The second semester will include instruction consisting of two sections: Copper-Based Cabling Systems and Fiber Optic systems. Students will demonstrate skills needed for installing, terminating, testing and troubleshooting both copper and fiber optic-based cabling systems. The course includes introduction to networking covering IP addresses and network topologies.
